"Mommy Is Dead"

Suicidal Tendencies - Mommy Is Dead

"Yesterday as I went out of the house
I saw her body lying down as quiet as a mouse
She was lying face down in the sewer.
What you do?
I got up closer and realized that I knew her.
What you see?
All her organs coming from her inside.
That's nasty-Slashed up skin, her sliced-up hide.
Tell me some more!
I turned her over and saw the tire tracks on her head.
Then what!
That's when I realized...Mommy was dead."

Suicidal Tendencies (also known as S.T. or simply Suicidal) is an American Punk crossover Thrash Metal band founded by singer Mike Muir.

Their origins go back as far as 1981.

Their style and sound clearly and proudly represents their multi-racial, gritty hometown of Venice Beach, California.

Their look and image is best described as; slacker-beach-pothead-skateboarder meets east L.A. gang-banger. That's the first thing that attracted me to them. I had to find out what their music sounded like after seeing their photo. It all looked so genuine.

Suicidal blew my mind upon first listen.

They daringly incorporated a wide variety of styles into their sound and I was overjoyed.

I love Jazz-Fusion and any music that tries to meld more than one style into a whole new sound. ST did this to perfection, showing an enthusiastic love of all styles.

I most notably heard; punk-rock, speed-metal, hardcore, thrash, heavy metal, and even reggae in their sound.

They themselves have cited; The Ramones, the Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Motörhead, War, and Bob Marley as huge influences.

Although band members are going to change when you have a 30-year legacy of making music, many notable musicians have recorded with the band including; Brooks Wackerman younger brother of Allan Holdsworth's drummer; Chad Wackerman. Brooks is currently in A7X, Jimmy DeGrasso (Megadeth), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), and as of 2016 Dave Lombardo (Slayer).

This shows how much respect the group and their fearless leader Muir have earned over the years. Many great musicians including some of those named got their first big break playing in Suicidal. Mikey (Muir) never goes out on tour without a top notch band worthy of representing their legacy and reputation.
